Juice and grated rind of one lemon. 1/2-2/3 cup sugar 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 3 cups pared, thin-sliced apples 2 tbsp butter 3 cups soft bread crumbs 1/4 cup water |

Add lemon juice and rind, sugar and cinnamon to apples. Butter a medium-sized baking dish and alternate layers of apples and bread crumbs in it. Add water; dot with butter. Cover and bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees, 45 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve with whipped cream plain cream or ice cream. Serves four. |
